Thank you for visiting our website. The Northern Nevada International Center provides a resource for local residents as well as visitors interested in international activities and events. Click here to see our current calendar listing.

We provide interpretation and translation services; organize programs for international visitors, through the U.S. Department of State and the Open World Program; teach language and culture classes for children and adults; provide cultural competency training; and set up monthly public foreign policy forums.
 

  • NNIC would like to express its appreciation and thank you for your exceptional support during the 9th Annual Global Gala held on April 18, 2008 at El Dorado. We wish to thank our Board Members who eagerly promoted this event. We owe special thanks to our sponsors and silent auction contributors who gave generously to make this event a huge success.
    Lastly, we are deeply indebted to our staff and the numerous volunteers who gave freely of their time and energy to make this event possible. This year's event was a big success.   • Thank you for your 2008 International Awards Nominations! The Northern Nevada International Center salutes three individuals who have made substantial international contributions to Northern Nevada. These 3 individuals were honored at our 9th Annual Global Gala. The awards are a permanent feature of the International Center's annual fundraising event. Their aim is to highlight the importance of creating international awareness and understanding in our community and to honor those who have often worked unnoticed to accomplish such goals. This year’s award winners are:
    • Ty Cobb, Sr. – World Citizen
    • Robert Metts – International Visionary
    • Anita Bevans – International Volunteer
       
  • In a collaborative effort with Reno Sunrise Rotary, NNIC also recognizes three students who wrote essays on how they can be citizen diplomats.  The three winners in their respective categories are Alex Hayes, Logan Sidener, and Olivia Myer (click their names to read their great essays - they're PDF documents).
  • The Northern Nevada International Center will host the National Council of International Visitors Regional Conference. The, National Council for International Visitors (NCIV), will host its Western Regional Meeting in Reno, NV from June 11 – 13, 2008 attracting representatives of Councils for International Visitors, National Program Agencies and the Office of International Visitors, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State.Funded through NCIV’s Cooperative Agreement with the Office of International Visitors, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State, this event will highlight the excellent opportunities resources that Reno has to offer the global community to other Councils for International Visitors, National Program Agencies, and the U.S. Department of State Office of International Visitors.

  • Arabic Language Classes in Summer and Fall 2008

    Summer classes will start on June 3 and will end on July 17. This introductory course will go over the fundamentals of the Arabic language and culture.  In this class, students will learn the letters and sounds of Arabic as well as vocabulary and basic expressions which they will be expected to recognize and produce by the end of the semester.     After another successful completion of our spring Arabic classes, the Northern Nevada International Center is pleased to announce that we will be offering Arabic classes to the community, Levels 1-3, in the Fall of 2008. The introductory course (Level 1) will go over the fundamental of the Arabic Language and culture. Level 2 is designed either for students who have successfully completed Level 1 or take an entry test with the instructor.
