How WACA Came to Be

The World Affairs Council of America began its roots with the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) in 1918 in a group that included Woodrow Wilson and Paul Kellogg.  The group formed in an attempt to prevent isolationist foreign policies in a direct response to World War I and its aftermath.  In 1947, these ideas developed into various community councils forming one collective voice concerned with America’s global actions.  In 1986, the first office was established in Washington D.C. as the National Council of World Affairs Organizations (NCWAO), eventually evolving to what is known today as the World Affairs Council of America.
