At the Northern Nevada International Center, we believe that in combining fun and dynamic learning with introductions to different cultures and places, we can help create a more understanding and aware youth of tomorrow. Each year, our summer campers journey to a specific area of the world by learning about its people, cultures, languages, arts, food, stories, history, archeology, sports, dances, music, plant life, and much more. Our goal is to teach and excite children about their world around them, attempt to break down stereotypes to better show the realities of different communities, and to help them better understand their role as global citizens.
Have you ever wanted to weave dream catchers, see ancient rock symbols, shoot with a bow and arrow, or make fry bread? Come spend a week discovering the language, stories, food, art, music, and sports of Nevada’s Native Americans! Participants are expected to bring a snack, lunch and bottled water each day.
FIELD TRIPS: Activities include field trips to Meeks Bay at Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake to best experience Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe culture right in your own state.
For the past two years we have hosted a cultural summer camp for children, focusing on Latin America by investigating its geography, history, culture and Spanish language through dynamic, hands-on activities. In addition to a week-long, intensive basic Spanish course, the campers participated in different activities including cooking, arts and crafts, sports, mural painting and theater to celebrate the various Latin American cultures and the accomplishments of great Latino people, both in Latin America as well as in the United States.
