Our Mission

Arabic is the official language of over 20 countries with over 300 million native speakersArabic is the official language of over 20 countries with over 300 million native speakers of the language. The Arab region, with its rapidly growing population, provides a huge export market for goods and services. With a GDP of over 600 billion dollars annually, the region has much to offer the world market. Understanding the language and culture of international business partners is an important component to negotiating and conducting trade.

The Importance of Learning Arabic:

  • Arabic is one of the top 10 most studied foreign languages and the fifth most commonly spoken native language in the world.
  • The number of students studying Arabic in the U.S. has increased 127 percent since 2002, according to USA Today.
  • The U.S. government has called for more employees proficient in Arabic.
  • Learning a foreign language, and the accompanying culture, contributes to a student’s competitiveness in the global job market.

Our Program

We offer different course levels of Arabic language learning.Our Program

We offer four different course levels of Arabic language learning. Each of the classes focuses on strengthening reading, writing, and conversational skills. Each class also offers a cultural component to help students better understand the people and places where Arabic is spoken.

  • Course held from February 1 – April 29, 2010
  • Course levels offered spring semester: 1 and 2 & 4
  • Classes held at the University of Nevada, Reno – EJCH Building – Room 220C

Courses and Schedules

We offer different course levels of Arabic language learning.Course Levels and Schedules

Level 1 (introductory course) will focus on teaching the fundamentals of the Arabic language. In this class, students will learn the letters and sounds of Arabic as well as vocabulary and basic expressions.

Level 2 is designed for students who have successfully completed level 1 or take an entry test with the instructor. This class furthers vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills of the Arabic students.

Level 3 is designed for students who have successfully completed level 2 or take an entry test with the instructor. Level 3 focuses on a higher level development of language skills, with a greater focus on reading, writing and conversation.

Level 4 is designed for students who have successfully completed level 3 or take an entry test with the instructor. Level 4 focuses on refining and furthering language skills to allow students to leave the program with a level of basic proficiency in the language.

Course schedule for Spring 2010:

  • Level 1: Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-7pm at UNR’s EJCH 220C
  • Level 2 & 4: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-7pm at UNR’s EJCH 220C

Fees: $375 plus cost of three books (approx. $50)

Our Fall 2009/ Spring 2010 Arabic teacher is Fulbright Exchange Scholar Yosry Isma’el Tulbh from Egypt. Mr. Tulbh holds a Bachelors of Arts and Education in English language and literature from Mansoura University and has experience as a teacher in various settings. Mr. Yosry is very excited to share his culture while also learning about U.S. culture.
