Diane Crow is currently serving as the NCIV/CIV Liaison in the Community Relations Branch and as a Program Officer in the Voluntary Visitors Division in the Office of International Visitors at the Department of State. She returned to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in November, 2009 after serving 20 months in Iraq. During the first 18 months, she was one of the civilians working at the Provincial Reconstruction Team in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
While in Mosul she spent 3-5 days per week going ‘outside the wire’ to connect with average Iraqi citizens. Public Diplomacy is often hard to explain, but even in a war zone, it is based on building relationships, creating global engagement and opening doors for mutual understanding. As the Public Diplomacy Officer, Diane successfully worked to engage educators, journalists, woman’s organizations, and nonprofit groups. She will talk about the community she served and provide insight into the Iraq war that is seldom seen in world news reports.
In addition to Diane’s keynote, join us for international entertainment, essay contest awards, a silent and live auction and learn more about the mission and objective of the Northern Nevada International Center.
We will also celebrate the accomplishments of local citizens who often go un-noticed in furthering the mission of the NNIC. The 2010 International Award Winners are:
- Dr. Robert Maxson, International Visionary Award
- Lori Carpenter, Global Citizen Award
- Dee Gamal-Eldin, International Volunteer Award
