NNIC Fall 2009 Intern:
Trevor Macaluso
Trevor is a Junior at the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in Political Science, International Affairs, and Economics. Trevor studied abroad for a year in Torino, Italy, where he was fortunate enough to make friends from around the world, experience a new culture, to have traveled to 15 countries and to have accumulated an extensive knowledge of Italian cooking. He plans to return to Europe one day and hopes to volunteer in Africa after his graduation in 2011. He speaks fluent Italian with plans to learn Russian, German and French. He enjoys spending his free time with his friends while camping and relaxing at Lake Tahoe.

Sami Baldock
Sami Baldock was born in Reno, Nevada and is a dual citizen of both the United States of America and the United Kingdom. She is currently a senior at the University of Nevada, Reno, dual majoring in International Business and Economics with a minor in Spanish. Sami is a member of the Honors Program and is involved with several campus organizations. Having started her passion for traveling at a young age, she has been fortunate enough to visit 15 countries and has studied abroad in Madrid, Spain for a semester. Learning about new cultures and meeting people from around the world is an interest that will certainly stay with her. After graduating she hopes to join the Peace Corps and/or attend graduate school for Economic Development / NGO Development. In the future, Sami has goals to work for a non-profit organization that serves internationally aiding third world nations in need.

Eriko Sakamura
I was born and grew up in Japan and moved to Reno to study at UNR. I graduated from the university majoring English Language and Linguistics with a minor in TESOL. I started to work at NICC as Japanese-English interpreter/translator since this spring and as a camp counselor in this summer. Through these experiences, I start getting interested in NICC, especially in its education programs. I want to teach English to those who speak a language/languages other than English, so through this internship, I am excited to work and learn many things which will help me a lot in my career.

Jennifer Perry
I am a senior at the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in marketing. I was born in Reno and have lived here all my life. After graduating with my degree in marketing I plan to stay in the Reno area and work with a local company. I have studied French and I have always been interested in different languages and cultures. I have a passion for traveling and one day want to travel around the world. I am joining the NNIC to help spread the awareness about this organization and get more people involved.

Tom Maxon
Tom Maxon is a junior at the University of Nevada studying History and International Affairs with a specialization in East Asia. Tom was born in Reno, but has spent much of his younger years traveling to Canada and Mexico, while being partially homeschooled. Tom loves to spend his recreational time hunting, jamming on the saxophone, talking with interesting people, and just being outdoors. He is interested in gaining a foothold in the International community with a desire to raise the living standards of deprived people in the world community. He plans to go to China and Taiwan for a year, in which he hopes to apply a concrete reality to his education and to gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After graduation, Tom is planning to apply to graduate school for East Asian Studies or International Law. Tom would like a career that would enable him to develop and strengthen Sino-American relationships.

Gracie Geremia
Although from the small town or Laughlin, NV, Gracie Geremia is now a senior majoring in International Affairs with minors in Museum Studies and Sociology at the University of Nevada, Reno. In addition to her academic work, she is highly involved in student government for the Associated Students. Currently, she is the Speaker of the Senate, sits on the College of Liberal Arts Student Advisory Board, and chairs the campus’s Relay for Life. She has been to Europe once, but plans on studying abroad and graduating in the summer of 2010. Gracie aims at joining the Peace Corps after graduation. In the future, Gracie plans on a career working to promote world cultures and awareness through museums, non-profits, and other non-governmental organizations.

Justin Fong
Justin Fong is a senior at University Nevada Reno. He is studying international affairs with a focus on the Middle East and a minor in political science. Justin was born in California and moved to Nevada to attend University after completing his AA in Sacramento. Justin enjoys traveling around the world and has been to the Middle East, Europe, and Central America. Arabic and Spanish are two languages that Justin is studying and hoping one day to be fluent in. Upon graduation Justin is contemplating graduate school in Istanbul, Turkey or Peace Corp. His goals in life are to obtain a job that is multi cultural and gives him the opportunity to meet people from around the world. He strongly believes in the idea of traveling to different places in the world and learning first hand new cultures and ideas. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.”
