- What does the NNIC do?
We provide interpretation and translation services; organize programs for international visitors through the U.S. Department of State and the Library of Congress; teach language and culture classes for children and adults; provide cultural competency training and set up month speakers’ forums on foreign policy issues. Plus, if these programs do not fit your needs, we would be happy to talk with you about other opportunities to increase international awareness in Nevada: (775) 784-7515.
- Is the NNIC a non-profit organization?
Yes, the NNIC is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our tax identification number is 94-2796785.
- How is the NNIC funded?
Some of our funding comes through the National Council of International Visitors from the U.S. Department of State. A majority of our funding is provided through fee-for-service programs, including our interpretation and translation service; our language and culture classes and some of our visitors programs. Fee-for-service makes up approximately three quarters of our budget. We hold one fundraiser a year, our annual global gala in March or April.
- How long has the NNIC been in existence?
The NNIC has been in existence since 2001. It was first conceived of as the International Visitors Council of Northern Nevada in the late 1970s. It became the International Resource Center of Northern Nevada (IRC-NN) in 1998 with a seed grant from the City of Reno; and then the NNIC in 2001.
- What is the connection between NNIC and the university?
The NNIC is a sponsored project of the University of Nevada. As such, we enjoy an excellent relationship with our partner and our close connection to campus. All employees of the NNIC are State of Nevada employees.
