All year round, the Northern Nevada International Center proudly organizes and participates in many exciting and interesting events. Following is a calendar of the upcoming events that we are busy preparing now. To read more about a particular event, click on the Click to read more link; it will "expand" to show the details. 2008/01/28 - Ed. Outreach - Arabic Language Course: Levels 1-3

The NNIC is happy to announce the upcoming courses for Arabic Levels 1 - 3, that will be held from January 28 – May 9, 2008.

The introductory course (Level 1) will go over the fundamentals of the Arabic language and culture. In this class, students will learn the letters and sounds of Arabic as well as vocabulary and basic expressions which they will be expected to recognize and produce by the end of the semester.

Furthermore, cultural notes and presentations by people from different parts of Arabic speaking countries will give students a look at the richness and variety of Arabic culture.

Level 2 is designed either for students who successfully completed level 1 or take an entry test with the instructor.

Level 3 is for designed for students who have successfully completed level 2 or take an entry test with the instructor.

The Instructor for Spring 2008 is Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Fattah, a Fulbright Scholar from Egypt.

2008/05/10 - IVLP - Delegate from Brazil

A delegate from Brazil will be visiting Reno/Tahoe area May 10-14, 2008 to study Volunteers and Community Service; Health Initiatives for underserved populations. The Professional program will include seminars with the Crisis Call Center, Health Access Washoe County Community Health Center, Secret Witness Program, Nevada Hispanic Services, Homeless Coalition, and the Multicultural Health Collaboration.


2008/05/11 - IVLP - Delegation of judges from Russia

A delegation of 12 Russian judges (plus 3 interpreters) will visit Reno on May 11th, 12th and 13th to study judicial reform and administration.


2008/05/14 - IVLP - Delegates from Argentina

Two delegates from Argentina will be visiting Reno/Tahoe area May 14-18, 2008 to study Youth Leadership and Young Entrepreneurs in the U.S. The Professional program will include seminars with Hispanic Youth Image, Nevada Youth Alliance, Nevada Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology and the Reno Youth City Council.


2008/05/15 - IVLP - Delegation from Nigeria

A delegation from Nigeria (plus an English language officer) will visit Reno on May 15th or 16th to study global warming and desertification.


2008/05/17 - IVLP - Delegation from North Africa and the Near East

A delegation from North Africa and the Near East will be visiting Reno/Tahoe area on May 17-21 to study Promoting the Rule of Law and Judicial Reform. The Professional program will include seminars including the Washoe County Detention Center, National Judicial College, Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center, Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline, the Attorney General, and the Domestic Violence Unite of the Reno City Attorney's Office.


2008/07/28 - 2008 Global Kids Summer Camp

This year's Global Kids Summer Camp experience will focus on the history, life, culture, art and language of Nevada's Native Americans. Camp participants will learn about the rich heritage of our indigenous people by listening to storytellers, dancing, painting and studying the history of local tribes such as the Washoe, Paiute, Western Shoshone, etc. Campers will attend field trips to the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation and Museum. Participants are expected to bring a snack and lunch plus bottled water each day.

Times: 8:00am-5:30pm - Monday through Friday

Cost: $180 first child, 10% discount siblings
