The “Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists” is a specialized International Visitor Leadership program for journalists that began in 2006, and yearly, promising leaders in the field of journalism throughout the world participate. From October 1st through October 7th, 2009, Reno hosted journalists under the Murrow Program from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. The visitors specialized in newspaper, broadcasting radio and web journalism.

The delegation had a wide range of professional meetings with classes and faculty in the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno; the Reno-Gazette Journal, KNPB, News Channel 4 KRNV and members of City of Reno Staff. The group took a sightseeing cruise on Lake Tahoe and visited the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation to deepen their understanding of the Lake and its historical and cultural importance. They also participated in professional lunches, home hospitalities and other cultural outings with “Renoites,” taking home with them memorable experiences in Reno.
