<p>The Northern Nevada International Center is pleased to announce <strong>Arabic classes</strong> for the <strong>spring 09 semester</strong>.</p>
<p>The <strong>introductory course</strong> (<strong>Level 1</strong>) will go over the fundamentals of the Arabic language and culture. In this class, students will learn the letters and sounds of Arabic as well as vocabulary and basic expressions which they will be expected to recognize and produce by the end of the semester. Furthermore, cultural notes and presentations by people from different parts of Arabic speaking countries will give students a look at the richness and variety of Arabic culture.</p>
<p><strong>Level 2</strong> is designed either for students who <em>successfully completed level 1</em> or take an entry test with the instructor.</p>
<p><strong>Level 4</strong> is for designed for students who have <em>successfully completed level 3</em> or take an entry test with the instructor. The Instructor for Spring 09 will be <strong>Fulbright Language Teacher Siham Al Farchi from Morocco</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Course schedule:</strong></p>

<li>Level 1: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-7pm at UNR&#8217;s EJCH 220C</li>
<li>Level 2: Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-7pm at UNR&#8217;s EJCH 220C</li>
<li>Level 4: Mondays and Wednesdays, 4-5:15pm at UNR&#8217;s EJCH 220C</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Fees:</strong> $375 plus cost of three books (approx. <strong>$50</strong>)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Monday, November 17</strong> will be the second part of a <a title="NNIC: Six events to learn first-hand about Moroccan culture" href="http://www.nnic.org/educational-programs/2008/10/moroccan-mondays/">six-part series about Morocco</a> that began last month.  Fulbright Arabic teacher <strong>Siham El Farchi</strong>, from Morocco, will teach a class on how to cook the famous, traditional Moroccan dish, <strong>Couscous</strong>.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re curious - and to whet your appetite - this is what that delicious dish looks like:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-506" title="Mark T Kimmitt, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs" src="http://www.nnic.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/mark-kimmitt.jpg" alt="" width="157" height="202" /><strong>On Tuesday, November 18, the Northern Nevada International Center will present &#8220;Assessing US Foreign Policy Challenges in Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan,&#8221; by Brig. Gen. Mark T. Kimmitt </strong><strong>(US Army, Ret.)</strong><strong>, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs.</strong></p>
<p>Mr. Kimmitt served for over 30 years as an officer in a wide variety of command, operational, and policy positions with extensive operational experience abroad, before retiring with the rank of Brigadier General in the United States Army in 2006.</p>
<p>His assignments included Deputy Director of Operations and Chief Military Spokesman for Coalition Forces in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.</p>
<p>The event will take place at <strong>7 pm</strong> in the <strong>Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre</strong> (on the second floor) of the <strong>University of Nevada, Reno</strong>.  It is <strong>free and open to the public</strong>.</p>
