Erb is a Research Professor at The University of Montana and a Senior Fellow at the World Affairs Council of Montana. He also has served as an Adjunct Instructor in the School of Business Administration and has taught senior/graduate seminars on the European Union and on international money and financial flows. His research, lectures and publications focus on a wide range of economic and financial public policy subjects including the European Union and the international monetary and financial system.
Erb has held executive positions at the International Monetary Fund, serving as U. S. Executive Director on the IMF Executive Board from 1981 to 1984 and subsequently as the Deputy Managing Director for ten years. He also served in senior economic policy positions at the U.S. Treasury Department (Deputy Assistant Secretary for Developing Nations Finance, 1976-77), the White House (Staff Assistant to the President and Assistant Director of the Council on International Economic Policy, 1971-74), and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Assistant to Governor Sherman Maisel, 1967-69).
