INTERNATIONAL TEACHERS SPEND THE MORNING AT SWOPE EDUCATING MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR COUNTRIES AND CULTURES

On Thursday, November 03, 2011, students at Swope Middle School got the chance to explore different countries and cultures with teachers from around the world. Twenty teachers from Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Egypt, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Kyrgyzstan, Panama, Peru, Russia and the Ukraine have in Reno since September 23, 2011 with the University of Nevada, Reno College of Education and the Northern Nevada International Center. The teachers are concluding their six week professional development program supported by a grant awarded, for the first time, by the Teaching Excellence Achievement (TEA Global) program.
The International teachers have spent six weeks shadowing partner teachers within Washoe County School district. They have attended workshops within the College of Education. They have had dinners with local Home Hosts. They have visited Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, The Nevada Museum of Art and participated in other cultural activities. The teacher’s have been learning about Reno, about America and about the American school system but today they had the opportunity to share with the students at Swope a bit about their cultures.
