The Global Gala is the International Center’s main and only annual fundraiser and is typically held in March or April.

Each year, the International Center seeks nominations for three international awards: the International Visionary Award, the International Volunteer Award, and the Global Citizen Award.

The 2008 recipient of the International Visionary Award is Robert Metts, an UNR Economics professor, for being one of the foremost authorities on economic development and disability policy in developing countries.

The 2008 recipient of the Global Citizen Award is Ty Cobb, Sr, for his years of working in various iinternational roles on behalf of the US government and ffor his local activism to educate Nevadans on iimportant national and international issues.

The 2008 recipient of the International Volunteer Award is Anita Bevans, for being an exemplary citizen diplomat who has opened her home to hundreds of international visitors.

In a collaborative effort with Reno Sunrise Rotary, NNIC will also recognize three students who wrote essays on how they can be citizen diplomats. The three winners in their respective categories are Alex Hayes, a 5th grade High Desert Montessori Student, Logan Sidener, from Pine Middle School, and Olivia Myer, a 9th grader in home school.. The high school essay will be read at the gala. All three essays will be reprinted in the program booklet.
